ATV Maintenance Tips
The better you maintain your ATV, the longer it will last and the better it will perform overall. Many ATV maintenance related tasks can be performed at home if you have the right parts and equipment. This list of maintenance tips from Anderson Powersports Lake Havasu City - South will help you keep your ATV in the best possible condition.
Review Your Owner’s Manual
Your ATV’s owner’s manual is an invaluable resource when it comes to maintaining your quad. Not only will it be able to tell you about what kind of service your ATV needs and when, it should also contain things such as a list of approved products that can be put into your ATV without harming it. Always defer to the manual in matters of ATV maintenance.
Oil
Oil lubricates your ATV’s moving parts to ensure that they glide against each other instead of grinding together and damaging each other. If the oil feels sludgy or gritty to the touch, then it needs to be replaced immediately. Your owner’s manual should have advice on how often your ATV requires an oil change.
Changing the Filters
Filters help keep harmful particles out of your ATV’s engine, allowing it to function at peak efficiency. The oil filter should be changed every time you do an oil change, while the air filter should be replaced every three to four oil changes. Fuel filters can last a long time, but even they eventually need to be swapped out. Check your ATV’s fuel filter every once in a while to see if it’s in need of replacement.
Spark Plugs
The spark plug is what provides your ATV’s engine with the initial spark it needs to get started. If your ATV isn’t turning over, try replacing the spark plug. You can do this by disconnecting the battery and removing the engine cover. From there, simply use a spark plug wrench to remove the plug.
