ATV Cleaning Guide
ATVs are built to handle off-road conditions. A little dirt and muck won’t do much damage. However, leaving your ATV uncleaned for too long encourages corrosion and can lead to dirt finding its way into your vehicle’s engine. If you need some tips on how to get your ATV as clean as possible, this guide from Anderson Powersports Lake Havasu City South can help.
Scrape or Soak the Mud Away
The dirt and mud that cover your ATV will usually be intermixed with wild seeds. If you’re not careful about your runoff, you might find that your lawn might start to sprout weeds or foreign grasses. That’s why you should always clean your ATV on a concrete surface if possible. Before you start washing, remove the first layer of mud using a plastic scraper or garden hose.
Should You Use A Pressure Washer?
It might be tempting to use a pressure washer to clean off your ATV. While this will get your quad cleaning quickly, there’s also a significant risk that you’ll accidentally damage your vehicle. If you still want to use a pressure washer to clean your ATV, use the less intense settings and be careful where you spray. Be especially careful around the ATV’s ATV’s electrical components, bearings, and fuel system.
Add Soap & Scrub
The next step is to scrub your ATV using bike soap or automotive detergent and a scrub glove or sponge. Pay particular attention to getting your ATV’s plastic components clean. If you’re having trouble with the hard to reach areas, use a stiff brush. Any oily spots that you find can be dealt with using a degreaser.
Dry and Polish
If the forecast doesn't call for rain, you can simply leave your ATV outside to air dry. If you need to get your quad dry sooner rather than later, wipe everything down with a line-free towel. Use an air compressor to deal with hard to reach areas. Once everything is dry, spray the ATV with a plastic polish and wipe it down. Be careful to avoid accidentally spraying the seats, as the polish tends to make things slippery.
